Shahida Khan

I am delighted to introduce myself as the Head of Inclusion for Primary at GEMS FirstPoint School (FPS). I graduated from University of Cumbria, United Kingdom with a First-Class Honours degree in Primary Education with QTS. I have taught in Lancashire schools, United Kingdom across the Primary phases in Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. My experience led me to developing an interest for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and in 2014 I was promoted to SENDCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) position. Through this, I gained my qualification in PG Cert SENCO in 2015. This has given me over 15 years’ experience in the education field.

I believe that children with SEND have the greatest need for excellent teaching and are entitled to provision that supports achievement at and enjoyment of school in a safe and secure environment. By developing children’s confidence and independence skills, we are building the foundations for learning as well as being valued members of the wider community. 

I relocated to Dubai in 2019 as an English teacher for the Ministry of Education, this gave me a wealth of experience working with students with English as an Additional Language (EAL) and English Language Learners (ELL) students. I joined FPS in 2022 to continue my passion and be an advocate for Students of Determination. FPS has given me invaluable experience in supporting families from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds, as well as helping me develop my passion of working with Students of Determination. This has further enhanced my understanding for the different types of needs and how to best cater for learners with additional needs. I look forward to continuing to help teachers throughout the school provide quality first education for all. I also look forward to supporting you as parents to help and support your child through their learning journey at FPS.
