Susan Mahachi
School Counsellor
I was born and raised in Marondera, Zimbabwe. I graduated from the University of Zimbabwe with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in English and Theatre Arts and worked as a teacher for five years.
In 2011, I received my master of education counselling and human services from the University of Botswana which sparked my passion for child and youth mental health. I have eleven years professional counselling experience of which six years is in school counselling.
Before moving to Dubai I worked as a senior counsellor at a women’s shelter in Botswana and as a field representative for the Stephen Lewis Foundation Ontario, where I supported families, children and teenagers as well as worked on projects to empower orphans, vulnerable children and adolescents. This experience enabled me to work with individuals, groups and families, helping them cope with difficult situations and improve their mental health and wellbeing.
In 2013, I started my first job as a school counsellor at Al Salam School in Dubai. I am beginning my sixth year service as a school counsellor at FirstPoint School. I am a licensed counsellor with the CDA and affiliated with different counselling groups and organisations.
My role as a school counsellor is truly rewarding and satisfying. I enjoy working with students, teachers, the administrative team and parents in empowering students to become the best version of themselves. I am passionate about helping all our students with their social, emotional, mental health or wellbeing needs. I strongly believe that student wellbeing is essential for academic success and to help children and teenagers as they navigate the different stages of development in life.
Counselling services are available to all our FPS family members. I provide counselling in a safe, confidential and easily accessible environment.
