Assistant Principal - Head of Mini-School KS2
Beginning in 2006, Mr Barrett’s teaching career started in a comprehensive secondary school in south west London where he was selected for the National College for School Leadership FastTrack to Headship programme. Since then, Mr Barrett has served as Deputy Headmaster with academic and pastoral responsibilities at two ‘Excellent in all areas’ UK independent preparatory schools as well as an international school in Dubai. Mr Barrett brings with him extensive knowledge of the very best of the UK prep school environments, coupled with the understanding of what it takes to create an excellent international school environment.
Mr Barrett’s standards and expectations are high, his qualifications include an MA in Educational Leadership from the University of Bath, Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from Brunel University and a BSc (Hons) Science (sports science) from the University of Greenwich. He has taught across all age ranges from 3-18 and across a wide range of subjects including English, mathematics, science, computing, physical education and reasoning. He is passionate about supporting colleagues to achieve their professional development aims, ultimately resulting in outstanding results for our pupils.
Mr Barrett’s vision for the KS2 Mini-School is centered around creating a nurturing environment where children feel valued as they achieve their aspirations. An emotionally comfortable but academically challenging location, where the youngest pupils show courage in their endeavours and the eldest display conviction in their ideals. Mr Barrett is passionate about creating real-world opportunities for children to think critically, engage creatively and perform passionately, growing in confidence as they exceed expectations.
Mr Barrett’s two young sons are also members of the GEMS FirstPoint family and, away from school life, they all enjoy playing sports, travel and reading together.
