Assistant Principal Inclusion - Head of Mini-School Key Stage 4
Rhys Headley is the Assistant Principal for Pastoral Care and Inclusion and the Head of the Key Stage 4 Mini School. Rhys has a BA Honors in European & International Politics. He studied for his undergraduate degree at Northumbria University, England and his Post Graduate Certificate in Education at Middlesex University, England. In 2015 he completed the National Professional Qualification for Senior Leaders at the Institute of Education before moving to Dubai in 2016.
Rhys worked in the UK for 10 years, teaching Geography and Politics in North London and has held the positions Head of Department, Head of Year and Senior Leader in charge of Intervention. This alongside his student-centeredness places him in a good position to drive attainment at all levels. Rhys has lots of skills and experience that he can utilise to ensure that the students at GEMS FirstPoint School have positive learning experiences and make outstanding progress. At each School Rhys has worked at and in each leadership position he has held, Rhys has always supported the students to set new School records by achieving the highest results.
Rhys is a firm believer in the work of Carol Dweck surrounding Growth Mindsets as he believes that intelligence is not fixed but can be built upon. It is this philosophy that he brings into the School as he expects all staff and students to achieve and exceed their peak potential. It is his mission to make learning enjoyable whilst at the same time arming staff and students with skills and qualifications that will support them in later life.
On a personal note, Rhys is a keen sportsman and has played Rugby for 22 years, representing his county and University First Team. More recently he has taken up cycling and enjoys spending his weekends at the track. Rhys and his wife, who is also a Geography teacher, both enjoy international travel and like to spend their holidays visiting new countries. Rhys and his wife have recently been blessed with a baby boy, Thomas, and are both enjoying the challenges of parenthood.
Rhys is extremely proud to work at such a prestigious School as GEMS FirstPoint School and is continually driven to achieve the best for every child he works with. He looks forward to ensuring that GEMS FirstPoint School continues to move from strength to strength and is keen for you to join him on this journey.
