Head of Year 12
Miss Barr is originally from Derry, Northern Ireland. She graduated from Queens University Belfast with a BSc in Psychology in 2011, then moved to Thailand to teach English as an additional language to children in a rural Thai school. She became a qualified teacher in 2014, graduating from Manchester Metropolitan University, and began her teaching career in Liverpool, where she taught Psychology for two years. This was an excellent opportunity for her, securing her first qualified teaching role in an Outstanding school where she gained a wealth of experience teaching both ALevel Psychology and Sociology to over 100 highly performing students. Miss Barr loves to travel, so she embarked on her journey to the UAE in 2016 where, once again, she could combine her love of teaching with her passion for exploration. Miss Barr joined GEMS FirstPoint in 2016 and has been a highly active and passionate member of the school community ever since.
Miss Barr teaches GCSE and ALevel Psychology at GEMS FirstPoint and is also Head of Year 12. She is an experienced member of the Post 16 team, having led both Year 12 and 13 in previous academic years. She is extremely passionate about improving teaching and learning in Key Stage 5 and has very high expectations of all students. She is extremely passionate about student wellbeing and mental health education and consistently strives to ensure every student is a happy, engaged and confident learner. Alongside her passion for education and student welfare and wellbeing she plays Gaelic football for a Dubai football team and she represents her club playing across the Middle East.
