Thomas Owen
Year 7 Leader
This is now my third year working at Gems First Point School after arriving in the UAE in the summer of 2022. I arrived with my wife, Mrs Owen, who is a Mathematics teacher at the school.
I grew up in the North of England, in between Liverpool and Manchester and graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2013 with a BA (Hons) in History. Following this I completed my Teacher Training course and then taught just outside Liverpool for eight years in a thriving History department. Six of these years were also spent as Head of Year 7, providing pastoral care and managing the transition process from Primary to Secondary.
Outside of work, I have enjoyed exploring the UAE and the surrounding countries and look forward to travelling more in the coming years. I am also a big football fan and follow Wigan Athletic FC, despite their recent demise! I also have a keen interest in Rugby League and have represented British Amateurs on international tours in Australia and Jamaica.
Finally, I am excited to have the opportunity to work closer with our Year 7 students at FPS, supporting and guiding them as they make the transition in to the Secondary School.
