Student Leadership and Council
Head Boy (Y6/12), Head Girl (Y6/Y12), Deputy Head Boy (Y12) and Deputy Head Girl (Y12)
Our Head Boy and Girl represent the school and act as role models through their daily conduct. Both are ambassadors at whole school events and take leading roles within the Student Councils. Our Head Boy and Girl take a lead in ensuring student voice is effective and that decisions agreed upon are carried out. They liaise with members of the staff Senior Leadership Team and other members of staff on a regular basis to support the continuing improvement of the school.
Our Deputy Head Boy and Girl represent the school and act as ambassadors through their daily conduct. Both are representatives at whole school events and take a leading role within the Student Councils. Our Deputy Head Boy and Girl support the Head Boy and Girl in their duties and deputies when required.
Our House Captains are ambassadors for their houses and represent houses at whole school events. They liaise with their Head of House and are involved in the planning, delivery and review of competitions, events and promoting the ethos of their individual house.
Our Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 Playground Leaders have been trained by our Physical Education Department on how to plan and deliver safe and engaging physical activities for their peers during break time. They are also responsible for the safe upkeep and storage of equipment.
Our Year 10 and 11 Prefects carry out a range of activities aimed at supporting students who may be vulnerable for several reasons. This may be working with students at break and lunchtimes and helping students to access enrichment opportunities after school. They also work on a rota to assist members of staff with the health and safety of students at break and lunchtime. Our Year 10 and 11 Prefects are also responsible for working closely with their Head of Year and giving back to their respective cohorts.
Our Class Ambassadors are responsible for assisting their class teacher with all elements of the curriculum. They are the primary strategical communication link between students and their class teacher.
Student Care Ambassadors
Our Student Care Ambassadors promote our ‘Caring’ core value. They are the designated Registration group representative and lead on whole-school wellbeing initiatives. They are the face of our effective covert Student Care Anti-Bullying Recording System.
Our Sports Leaders undertake an official external qualification and are trained at the beginning of the year to lead activities and games with younger children and are taught the important qualities that are needed when working with young people.
Well-being Warriors and Teen Mental Health First Aiders
Our Key Stage 5 Wellbeing Warriors undertake a mentoring role for students in Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4; offering support and guidance towards their physical, mental and social wellbeing.
Our Teen Mental Health First Aiders have undertaken a course lead by Lighthouse Arabia, developing skills they need to recognise and respond to mental health concerns in their friends, and to get the help of an adult quickly. The Teen Mental Health First Aid Course is the equivalent of physical first aid, for mental health.
Subject Area and Departmental Student Leaders
Our Subject Area and Departmental Student Leaders promote individual subject areas, tasked with modelling academic excellence. For example, we promote Emirati Lead Learners throughout our impactful UAE Social Studies curriculum.
The Student Councils are organised and conducted by students, facilitated by members of staff. The Student Councils are triangulated in line with the Assistant Principals’ roles and responsibilities, in addition to the Parent Councils; ensuring that all parties are working towards shared aims, objectives and outcomes.
The purpose of the Student Councils are to give students an opportunity to develop leadership skills by planning and delivering impactful initiatives and service projects. In addition to planning events that contribute to the wider school community, the Student Councils are the primary voice of the student body. They help share student ideas, interests and concerns with the wider school community.
Any student that is interested in leadership, organisational behavior, event planning or becoming more involved in the school are welcome to become involved.
The Primary Student Councils will meet weekly, and the Secondary Student Councils bi-weekly. Students will be involved in the monitoring, evaluating and reviewing of the Student Councils, presenting findings to the Leadership Team.
