Career Advice and Higher Education Guidance

As a student at FirstPoint, you have access to personalised guidance from our career and higher education advisor and support from the GEMS career network. All GEMS students have access to the best fit career pathways aligned to their personal profiles through structured and applied world-class counselling and mentoring programs, both in school and across the GEMS family.

In school, we make use of the UniFrog platform to help students research potential careers and further study as well as develop their own personal statements and letters of application. This focus on self-actualisation is supported by individual meetings with a dedicated form tutor and the careers advisor. Student progress is tracked and monitored, and additional mentorship is provided at each stage if required. We also offer a unique University Bridging Programme for all our Year 13 students, to equip them with personal, life and career skills to move to the next stage of their academic life or career. This is offered to all students in the last term of Year 13.

We have an active alumni network and have FirstPoint students studying across five continents. Our graduates go on to study medicine, law, engineering, fine art, architecture, drama, fashion and sciences, and we celebrate our successes in all fields.

The GEMS for Life portal serves as an invaluable resource hub for both students and parents within the GEMS community, offering a comprehensive array of opportunities and guidance for personal and academic development. Through this portal, students gain access to a curated list of scholarships specifically available to GEMS students, ensuring that financial assistance opportunities are easily accessible. Additionally, the portal provides information on internships tailored to match the unique skill sets and interests of GEMS students, empowering them to gain practical experience and explore potential career paths. Beyond scholarships and internships, the platform offers a wealth of advice and guidance, equipping students with the tools they need to navigate their educational journey successfully.

In addition to the online resources, Webinars and in-person workshops featuring industry professionals and experts are organised on a regular occurrence and communicated via the Careers channels on Microsoft Teams. These events provide students with invaluable insights into various fields and industries, offering real-world perspectives and fostering connections that can shape their academic and professional trajectories. By regularly hosting these events, we are ensuring that students have ongoing opportunities to engage with industry leaders, refine their skills, and stay updated on emerging trends and opportunities within their areas of interest. Through a combination of online resources and interactive events, we are committed to empowering students to thrive academically, professionally, and personally, both during their time at GEMS and beyond.

University Links

FirstPoint has established partnerships with universities to provide opportunities for students to accelerate their understanding of degree level content and/or develop their knowledge of concepts which traditionally would only be accessible once they have enrolled into a university. The initial phase started with electrical, mechanical and industrial engineering and computing, with further developments in discussion to provide opportunities in other subjects as well as unapparelled access to university facilities.

Unifrog

At FPS, all students have the opportunity to use Unifrog. Unifrog is a complete destinations platform that allows students to search for opportunities and make applications for their next steps.
