Rachael Gabel

My name is Rachael Gabel and I am a student counsellor working in within the primary school. 

I am from the UK where I practiced as a social worker for over 10 years supporting children and young people from 0-18 and who present with a varying range of issues. 

Since then I have worked with the department for education placing social workers into school s to address complex issues to prevent escalation into statutory services.

I then moved on to work as a consultant providing independent  advice and guidance to schools to address safeguarding concerns whilst working directly with children as an external source of support. 

My work includes working with children and young people on a one to one basis and also through group support. Referrals can be made from staff, parents or from the students themselves and a clear plan of intervention is identified from this. 

Each plan is outcome focused and I use a range of methods and models to address individual needs. 

I also work collaboratively with the adults around the child, including parents to support them to address issues and support with wider issues at home. 

It is important that all children at Gems FPS are given the best opportunities to thrive, and this also means that their social and emotional needs are met. This is my priority as the student counsellor.
